The teams at Strength:Lab and Run Zone AC have joined forces to make sure you get the most out of life and of course your running.

As an athlete and a parent I know how challenging it can be to train effectively for events like marathons, half marathons, 10 km or even just getting started. I have over 10 years of experience in helping amateur athletes surpass their goals, while making sure they have quality time available for family, friends and their career.

Our programmes cater for all levels of ability and are personalised around you and your goal. They are simple and easy to follow including fun and creative sessions to make you want to get out there and run. They will guide you step by step to smash your personal goal. We will provide you with the knowledge and guidance of training, racing, health and nutrition to lead a proper healthy and successful endurance lifestyle. Strength & Conditioning workouts are included in our weekly plans.

Whether young or old, beginner or elite, we want you to get the most out of your running and to be the best you can be.

StrengthLab was founded in 2017 by Jateen Bhana (COACH & FOUNDER). Jateen is a passionate coach and has been a runner for most of his life. Furthermore, he is passionate about sports and sports development for all ages. Our goal is to help our athletes to enjoy their training by integrating it as a fun part into their daily routine.

However, the biggest challenge for Jateen has been balancing training with his career, family and friends. This is what motivated Jateen to think about approaching things differently, so he studied his training diaries in depth, while reading more books, blogs and scientific journals than he had time for.

“It became clear to me that success as an amateur athlete was not about training more, it was about training better.”

Over many years, he developed this philosophy, which he have researched and refined to develop an approach with all the athletes that he has worked with – and the results have been great. After much research and investigating Jateen started StrengthLab – to offer the most comprehensive range of endurance sports training plans. All designed to help one enjoy the same success that our athletes and him have, in an affordable way that still means one has quality time for their family, friends and career.

Jateen holds a Bachelors degree in Sport Science (Distinction). His studies focused on the determining factors of endurance running performance & strength and youth movement & development.  His knowledge and skillset in the field of Sport Science (and to a lesser extent, Engineering (BSc Civil Engineering)) helps keep the focus on Sports Analysis, Performance, Recovery and Statistics for all our athletes.

Jateen has experience in training for, and taking part in various endurance events which include the Comrades Marathon (Silver Medal), the Two Oceans Ultra Marathon (Sainsbury Medal) and over 30 Marathons and Ultra Marathons with a Personal Best (PB/PR) of 2:47:47 at the London Marathon.  We take tremendous pride in guiding and coaching athletes, whether young or old, beginner or elite, to get the most out of their sport and to be the best they can be.

Endurance Running Coaching

We specialise in endurance running coaching services for all ages and levels. We develop individual, scientifically based training plans that are tailored to one’s unique body traits, lifestyle, fitness levels and goals. We also take account of any current health challenges one may have and their medical history.

We live, eat and breathe endurance sport. Over the years we have tried and tested various methodologies and come to understand what works best. We have a proven track record with athletes we have trained. As a sports scientist, Jateen is analytical and scientifically meticulous in his approach.

Our plans are:

  • Flexible, structured training for any level

          Research-backed plans for any experience-level that fit around their lifestyle. Plans can be for individual, small groups ( less than 10), larger groups

  • Push through the world’s best training app

          We use Training Peaks for personalised training zones, trackable progress and so much more on any major device

  • Certified coach support

          We offer a comprehensive help-centre & FAQ support and will quickly reply to any questions one has via email.

Strength Training

 We deliver functional strength training to help improve overall strength and skill for common body movements. The strength training is designed to increase power, range of movement, coordination, mobility, agility, strength and stability providing one with an internal ‘scaffold’ to support all aspects of one’s training. This will improve their efficiency and boost performance.

Including strength and conditioning will further help minimise the risks of injury through improved strength, stability and by matching imbalances that can be created by repetitive overuse.

Our strength training includes:

  • Strength Adaption

We have chosen specific strength and mobility exercises to support one’s running/cycling. These include but are not limited to squat and lunge variations, various jumping, upper body and core exercises. Strength training not only improves functional movement patterns but also builds lean muscle tissue, reduces one’s risks of getting injured and improves their performance too

  • Metabolic training

This involves a combination of HIIT (High Intensity Interval Training) and strength exercises with very little rest in between exercises. This type of training maximises the burning of calories and increases the metabolic rate during and after the workout. These sessions are tough but effective for improving one’s body composition in terms of fat loss.

  • Sessions can be private, semi-private or group
  • Sessions utilise Body weight or Free weights
  • Available to both adults and children. Children’s sessions are all body weight.

 

Information Sessions/Workshops – Sports Science

Knowledge is strength and having an extensive knowledge of all things running makes one a better runner. We aim to educate all our athletes and offer a variety of workshops/information sessions, ad hoc, discussing various topics about running, training, strength work, nutrition, recovery, etc. suited to an athlete’s needs.
